Rogers announced their iPhone package plans today. Two thumbs down. I will not be getting one until there is an unlimited data plan option. Shame on you Rogers for being stuck in 1997.
The plans:
- $60 for 150 minutes with unlimited weekends and evenings. Sending of 75 text messages and only 400 MB of data per month.
- $75 for 300 minutes with unlimited weekends and evenings. Sending of 100 text messages and only 750 MB of data per month.
- $100 for 600 minutes with unlimited weekends and evenings. Sending of 200 text messages and only 1 GB of data per month.
- $115 for 800 minutes with unlimited weekends and evenings. Sending of 300 text messages and only 2 GB of data per month.
These are ridiculous. These plans will drastically impede the enjoyment and use of iPhones for Canadians. No one wants to think "Hmmm... should I load up Google maps to find that address? Is that good use of my 400mb this month?". If Rogers were to make a plan with unlimited data for an additional $30/month, as AT&T has done, they would sell like hotcakes. I'd get one. I'm surprised Apple let them get away with this.
Hopefully the auctioning off of more of the spectrum will bring some competitors into the fold in the coming years.

I'm completely disappointed, but not surprised by this news. It's a very "Rogers" approach to pricing. They have a virtual gold mine in their hands hands here, but they're not doing a thing with it.
Looks like I'll be sticking with my 1st gen. iPhone with no data plan for the foreseeable future. It's a shame too, because I would have locked my plan in for another 3 years had the prices been fair. I guess all we can do now is wait.
I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of some more competition in the mobile space here to hopefully knock Rogers off their high horse.

Their examples are possibly over generous. They claim 400MB is good for up to 3,100 web pages or 1,360 photos. They should really stress "up to", considering most pages seem to be about 0.2MB - 1MB per page.
YouTube anyone?
It's probably a good thing the iPhone still can't play flash video. ESPNs front page is more then 10MB.

Totally agree. I have one in the US and the idea that I don't even think about data is important. I just whip out my phone and look stuff up without ever thinking what it'll cost.

I'd been anxiously waiting for the release of the data rates, and was really disappointed in where rogers decided to go with this.
Check out this site.. http://www.ruinediphone.com/ aproximately 30,000 people are saying no to these data plans. I was going to get the iphone, not now.
