Unless you have access to the Maple Leaf lounges via points, the annual membership is rather pricey. If you fly only AC, it's not so bad. However, if you fly a variety of airlines, there is a better option.

If you take out a Priority Pass membership, you can get access to a much wider variety of lounges, with at least one at every international airport.

I'd used my Diners' in the past, but found that often the Diners' Club lounges are a bit short on amenities.

Steve,
It's true. The Maple Lounge pass is pricey on its own. Luckily if you have an Aerogold Visa with CIBC in Canada you can get a special membership with them for around $120-$150. It also includes some travel insurance, etc.

I've been looking at the priority pass and it does look like a nice option as well.

I tend to travel quite a bit myself and have found that lounges in Europe tend to be crazy busy (eg: you might at well be sitting in the designated waiting area), free drinks (although you can't get them yourself and have to wait in line for a single server to dispense them), anything more than a cracker and you've struck gold, and I have yet to find free wireless internet in a European lounge. I've only visited the lounges in Frankfurt, Milan and Rome.

Dico,
I've only been in the AC lounges in London (arrival & departure) thus far and have nothing but good things to say about them. It seems all Air Canada lounges are self serve for alcohol. Busy wise those lounges weren't bad at all.

I'm about to leave on a trip for Dublin, both Congos and Turkey. I hadn't visited your blog in a while and it was nice to be greeted with some simple travel tips. I've done the entire North American content to death, but this will be my first trip to the other hemisphere. Thanks for the quick advice.
