I got an email today announcing a new provincial sponsored project for employers to find employees and vice versa. A nice idea really. On this page I found this chart:
| Total Employees by Sector | |
| Advanced Technology | 19 |
| Communications | 335 |
| Computer Sales and Services | 3 |
| Consultants - IT | 101 |
| Customer Contact Centre | 645 |
| Education and Training | 29 |
| e-Learning | 0 |
| Film & TV Producers | 6 |
| New Media | 33 |
| Software Development | 47 |
| Web Design & Development | 41 |
| N/A | 5 |
According to this chart 40% of the web design and development jobs on PEI exist at 84 Fitzroy Street.
While these numbers seem understated to me (although maybe they aren't) it is an important day when those in the industry find the government's job statistics low instead of absurdly high.
Who are these mysterious 19 people working on advanced technology? I hope they're building something awesome.
Zero people are working on E-learning... That seems about right.

and only three people in Computer Sales and Services. I guess that doesn't count the FutureShop...

How many of these employees are PEI or even Canadian citizens. Seems that when we need skilled people, we dont train our locals (say graduate of Holland or UPEI), we dont even use Canadians. Nope, Americans and Asians seem to be the preferred employees. We need to hire local people, train local people and stop this influx. Pretty soon, all the things that make PEI a wonderful place to live will be lost.
