Today on CBC.ca there was an article saying that Canada has dropped in its pirate software usage. While that in itself isn’t really interesting, a little later in the article it states that:

“Even though the U.S. reported the lowest piracy rate, losses there topped the list at $8.3 billion because the market is so large. Losses in China came second, at $4.7 billion, and France was third, with $3.8 billion resulting from a piracy rate of 47 per cent.”

Now I’m not an economist but is it not presumptuous to count pirated software usage as “losses”? Yar, if only dem thar scallywags would buy our software instead of stealin’ it!
